  • Gee Bee flying

With all the old pics hitting the board these days I figured I'd dig these out of storage. Taken sometime in the summer of 1995 at the Glendale Municipal Airport, AZ (west of Phoenix).

One of my most favorite performances. I'll never forget seeing him inverted heading down runway 08 at Stead and dissapearing under the crown of the runway! Great performer!

Thanks for the shots. I will always remember him climbing during a knife edge pass. It made you wonder if the wings actually do anything.
            No pixels were harmed, honest.

Damn...an aviation regret. I totally missed the Delmar era, and Lefty's final airshows thanks to working/being incarcerated on cruise ships 93-2001. The Gee Bee's one of my favorites.

Any chance we'll see it again at Reno?

It's at Kermit's Fantasy of Flight Musuem in Florida. I don't know whether Kermit actually bought it, or if Delmar is just displaying it there. Can someone verify which it is?

It was too sensitive in pitch for snaps or vertical maneuvers. Look at the shot looking down on it and notice how short the tail is.

Here it is... taken last year at Kermit's Fantasy of Flight in Polk City, Florida. About 30 minutes away from DisneyWorld driving a motorhome.

Didn't see anything indicating it was on display or had been purchased.

                          Enjoy,
                          Warren

FWIW...I have a buddy who built an exact museum scale 50% replica thats for sale if anyone's interested. Sat in an art gallery for quite a while and I know he'd like to move it.

Tube and fabric, hand pounded aluminum pants and cowl etc........nice!
