  • So is a new pilot being groomed for Strega?

Seems Steve Hinton Jr. is getting a lot of time behind the controls of Strega lately.

19 years old and flying one of the fastest piston planes in racing history has to be an ego trip!

He must be a damn good pilot if Tiger is letting him take up his girl!

    I noticed that also.
He's a very mellow young guy actually.

I suspect his ego is pretty well groomed.

I sure didn't mean to say that he had a big ego. From people I know that have met him and his family ego is not something that is mentioned.

I was more meaning in general terms that it would be an ego trip to be able to fly Strega.

Wildfire, I herd something about fixing leaks and replacing "old" parts, might fly sometime "later" this year... may be... may be not...

Re: So is a new pilot being groomed for Strega?

I have to say that I'm not a fan of the aesthetics of Wildfire, but I am darned impressed with what they've done. Having built two planes (Long EZ & Glasair III), I can only imagine what it's like to build from scratch with your own design.

There's on old homebuilder's saw, "90% done, 90% to go." That last "90%" is consumed by the detail work; usually systems and troubleshooting of same. The key at that stage is to get at least one thing done every scheduled workday.

In Wildfire's case, that "last mile" has to be tough, given the airframe's intended mission. Add to that the passing of the designer/father/mentor during this critical stage and it makes everything that much more difficult.

She'll fly when the time is right, and I'm sure that there will be one big ole' party when she's back in the chocks.

Oh Yea.. totally off topic and I'll prolly post a notice about same.. You now can upload bigger avitars.. I think it's something like 100x100... leaves a bit more room, as you can see, for creative use of those millions of images that are sent to us daily in joke emails!

Hey Spinner.. if anyone ever needed a "stamp of approval" I'd say Steve, the younger, has that in spades...

I don't care if Stevie ever races.. the "passing of the torch" has already taken place, just seeing two really respected "stang" owners turn over the stick to this "kid"....
