  • Dago's Stab.

I've often noticed that Dago Red is one of the few "Super 'Stangs" since Jeannie with a stock horizontal stabilizer and have always assumed that the minute benefits of the clip have kept it off the priority list for mods. Thumbing through a book yesterday, however, I noticed that Dago did sport a clipped stab. sometime during the mid-eighties (Alan Preston years). This leaves me with a couple of questions...

Does a modified stab. offer any tangible speed advantage over the stock version?

As in its original '82 form, Dago now races with a stock stab.--why were the stock tips reattached?

    Just curious...

    Re: Dago's Stab.

The faster Mustangs are extemely aft CG. What originally was considered a good idea to remove (drag reduction) became pretty apparent that stability was more important then drag reduction. The actual gain is unmeasurable, therefore putting them back on was the best idea.
