  • Bear Be Rare

    I just heard that the Bear might be changing there Vertical!!! Also that there might be some sort of winglets being put together. Anyone hear anything?

    Don't know for sure...but here are the new winglets...they are reconfiguring to use flaperons.

          I'm hearing they're considering a more "seasoned" race pilot for this year's Reno. I can't mention names, but she races a certain Red Pitts in the biplane class.

                Typically a flaperon is a full span flap that also acts as ailerons via a set of mixing bellcranks.

                What you described are usually simply called drooping ailerons.

                  Yes I understand what flaperons are, but is that confirmed?

                  I mean it makes sense big picture wise, but I don't know if in terms of an actual installation it would work, I guess it seems silly.

                          Yes, the cat got out of the bag a few months ago. It is true!

                          What don't you understand about thier use of flaperons? The mixing bellcranks are quite easy too design once you figure out the geometry.

                          We've been doing it for 30 years.
