  • OT-Nevada Air Guard

Last evening the Nevada Air Guard launched 8 C-130's. Quite a sight as the took off in trail, circled around town in formation and generall made a lot of noise!
I've personally never seen that many together in the air at once.

That would be cool. I was at work with no camera!

        Re: OT-Nevada Air Guard

I watched a lot of C-130s fly in/out of Moffett when the Navy was based there, but the most I could ever see flying at one time was about 4 planes, with half of those barely visible in the distance.

8 must have been quite a sight!

While it's not Alien quality, here's a few.

Very cool pics...thanks for posting. Certainly beats the lone C-130 takeoffs that I sometimes see from McClellan.

Now if they had gone out around Peavine and down the chute on to the course, THAT would have been cool...maybe we should lobby RARA to create a new "Herc" class..

Hmmmm. There was once an unofficial C-130 demonstration group (4 planes) called "The Four Horsemen" during the 50's-60's. They did formation flybys and a modified horizontal bomb burst.

Leo - That sounds like it would make a great demo during the races. I've been going to Reno since '97 and I don't ever recall seeing a Herc demo (save for the Blue Angels "Fat Albert" of course). It'd be cool to see a 4-ship routine..especially with a bomb burst. Maybe someday...

Heres my shots I didn't have my best lens and it was windy but I think I did ok. I also wasn't able to get a shot of all 8 on the runway due to a high fence being in the way

It was a sight to behold! Some of the pictures are even flat due to the smoky engines! The sound was awesome too. They all taxied to 16R at once and lined up 2x2 on the runway then took off in pairs, came back around from the SE and did an overhead break to missed approach and went off to the north for the rest of the evening. I did not get any shots of the landing due to the light so here the pictures of "Arrow 31 flight of 8 C-130s".

Was there anything on the news or in the Reno papers about an "O.R.I" (Operational Readiness Inspection)?

I use to see O.R.I.'s at Mather AFB, now closed. Four 135's and four B-52's on the runway at one time. Lots of smoke!

                            Saweeeeet!
I heard about it on the local radio, they were'nt specific just that it was a training exercise. Just a few minutes later, Roaaaaar.
MustangFan, the Four Horsemen only did a few demo's at select bases. They tried to get official sanction and never could. It WOULD be cool tho... Heck, THAT might even get my dad to come to the races.
