WEBSTER'S- du-el, n. two-person combat; any contest between two persons or parties. v., -eled, -el-ing. -el-ist, n.
Thought I'd throw out a suggestion for a new photo-thread topic, inviting site-goers to post & share a few of their AIR-RACING photos, depicting- TWO racers dueling out on the race course.
Addit'l photo criteria: AIR RACING - ANY racing class, ANY air racing event - ANY year, & taken from ANY shooting vantage (from the pylons, Valley of Speed, pits, grandstands, etc.). More than two aircraft may appear in the photo, but TWO must appear to be obviously vying-for-position. 'Duels' during qualification & practice periods are- 'OK' ('Racing' is- 'racing', right? )
Of course, the DUEL doesn't need to be for First-Place - we all have seen some awesome duels between two competitors during past races - even for LAST-place, sometimes.
***BTW- PLEASE feel free to use the thread to simply text your recollections of some of the most-exciting air racing duels you've seen of the years (- might even inspire a few more photo postings!)
So, here's a shot to get the ball rolling -
Tue. 9/15/98 - Biplane Class: A duel between #38 LONE WOLF Smith Mini Plane-flown by Dan O'Marro & Charlie Greer- flying his Pitts Special- #12 SLO POKE, racing towards Inner-2 Pylon during qualifying days.
So- Let's SEE some great- AIR RACING shots- HERE, during the off-season!!! DBD
