      Thus completes the Pond Racer chapter of the reno air races story. A real shame he never got to enjoy any championships after all that incredible work.

      R.I.P., dear fellow...You didn't win, but you made history, and we will never forget...

        I attended the 'public' unveiling of the Pond Racer, way back when, and
        so did Mr. Pond. He came up to Mojave in a Piaggio Avante! Anyway, he mentioned in his speech, the big reason for investing in a, I might add,
        radical machine such as this was he hated seeing WWII aircraft being
        'modified' for racing. He wanted to do something about saving our aviation heritage. He wanted to prove you could win a different way! He let his money do his talking! We'll never know just what it's potential could have been! I will miss this true visionary, humanitarian and patriot! Godspeed, Mr.Pond!!
