  • Why no V tails

I am told that a V tail will give less drag than the normal arrangement so I wondered why we do not see many appearing at Reno.
In RC model racing it has become fairly normal to use V tails and so I would assume the advantages would carry over to Reno.
Assymetrical designs might be another way to go as all races take place in the same direction.

    My 2 cents.

V tails tend to suffer from lack of rudder authority.

One of the most talked about issues with race plane modifications is the vertical stab and yaw stability. The power needed to swing race diameter props yields huge P-factor issues.

How about a Y tail pusher or a tailless delta.

Or...now that I think about it.... maybe a contra-rotating puller like the Bugatti Model 100. (V-tail with small tailwheel fin below)

Would love to see/hear that fly/race at Reno.

Awesome looking plane. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
