I'm afraid you'd have to call me a baa-a-ad name, cuz I love em all, whether they are up or down. Just love the sights, sounds, and smells of those big engines. I live in the pattern of my local GA airport, and will stop what I am doing and run outside if I hear anything that sounds like a large engine.
I leave for Reno in 5 days, but who's counting?

Critical Mass was the plane that did it for me. The first time I went to the races back in the mid 90's I fell in love with it. Sorry to see it gone.

Good list. But for pure wood factor, my number one has to be Dreadnought. It may not be the sleekest, fastest, or most radically modified... but nothing else is quite like a 4360!

And the the videos of Skip running Dago Red full-out down the VoS a few years ago did the trick too. When that aircraft was on, she was ON in a big way.

I think I agree with Bill on his number one...Hinton and the Red Baron...until the day we heard the words over the radio from Hinton to Hoover pulling up and calling a mayday down the front straight...."Bob....she's not flying"......then both of them disappeared down into the valley....That's a memory that will last a lifetime or longer.....

Only 5 days for me to be there!!!! WOOHOO!!!!!

Mine would have to be Tsunami. Man, I really wanted her to work out! MAII was a very close second! Both of those projects will always hold a special place in my heart!

Re: WOODIE factor over the years, taking a poll !!

This started out as a top ten, then I realized I have no clear favorite! In no particular order, 'cause they are all cool.

                      Super Corsair
                      Stilleto (Color Tile)
                      Tsunami
As ill fated as it may have been Pond Racer
September Fury (something that big going real fast)
                      Cobra (not just UL's right?)
                      Red Baron
Sumthin' Else (best looking Mustang IMHO)
                      CM/BMB
                      Rose Perigrine
                      Nemesis

                      And, and, and.........
                      Red

Re: WOODIE factor over the years, taking a poll !!

As a young man and seeing all the usual P-51s fly year in and year out
(I will always love the sound and look of the P-51) I will always have a special place in my hart for the RB.

The one year (my first year missed at the time) I didnt get to go, she crashed, and I had to hear about it from dad when he got back... Im sorry Joe, but RB crashed... I was devistated! I ran to my room and swore I would never forgive my dad for not letting me go so I could see her one last time. I cried my self to sleep that night.
After that my dad took me every year (mumbling anf grumbling all the way to the ticket counter ).

So my list would have to go

                        #1 RB-51
                        #2 Jenie.
                        #3 Tsunami
#4 Super Corsair (though at the time I was not really impressed)
                        #5 CM
#6 Thunder Mustang, The first year I saw in static in the pits... WOW!
#7 Rare Bear. WOW is she REALLY that far down the list
#8 Round motor Yacks... They look so small, and sleek. Like they should be gold contenders. But never really quite get ther. lol I still love em.

Anyone ever figure out what that equates to on the "new" course? Not in a calculating mood right now. Otherwise I think I could figure it out. Oh yeah, the topic at hand.........
                              1) Strega all the way, baby!
