  • OT: question abt Hoover's Shrike

An old Smithsonian web page I found states Mr. Hoover flew the Shrike to Sun N Fun in April 2000, where he officially retired it and it was put on display until the Udvar-Hazy center was completed.

My question: Does anyone know how the aircraft was moved from Lakeland to the Udvar-Hazy center?

Cool. I know it's at Udvar-Hazy; I just want to know how it got there from Lakeland.

Re: OT: question abt Hoover's Shrike

From what I've heard or read somewhere, Mr. Hoover came down to Lakeland and picked up the Shrike and flew it to the Idvar-Hazy Museum before it opened in 2003. I believe there was another pilot with him and I have also heard that when he landed at IAD, they had a taxiway over to the museum and as he taxied over the door's of the museum were opened so he taxied it in under it's own power. Again the last part is what I heard. I hope this helps.
