  • Off season at Stead

During the winter the pylons make great roosting posts for some of the hawks that hunt field mice and rabbits. Occasionally they'll take a turn around the pylons, too..

Now that is something different. But he's going the wrong way around the pylons!!!!!! How did he get past rookie school? I really like the photo though.

something to do with the Coriolis effect on their inner ears and how it guides their inertial navigation system.

or it could be an Australian hawk...

almost forgot this one - You can't have an air race without pylon judges....

Kind of a high-tech box made out of magnesium, silicon and plastic, but yes, that's basically it.

I thought as much.. I'll tell you though, I have the equivalent of s a digital box camera (2 megapixel) in my glove box, and sometimes its a hell of a lot more fun to use...

When we used to soar out at Reno/Stead. the hawks would fly in formation with us from time to time.

They also like to do loops and roles. My dad has some really nice shots of the hawks he took from his 232.

I will see if he can post one or two, or let me do it for him.
