  • Hard Drive Crash - Verdict Is In $1275.00

OK... I ain't proud.. got the bad news from the drive folks today... 85%-100% chance of recovering the drive data but...

    GULP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    $1275.00 to do so!!!!!!!!!!!!

You know the drill.. we're accepting donations to help defray this TOTALLY unexpected blow to our annual expense treasure chest. Some bux are already spent, like the trip to the "Gathering" which I was not going to do because of cost but got "talked" into, "you can't not go".. by a really good friend..

    Anyway..

Ain't beggin but "donations accepted" via the "Make A Donation" button above or.. we take pennies, nickels, bottles, cans.. you name it! We need help here!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll pony up a free 8x10 of your choice (my shots, of course.. ain't no Victor but I do get some goodies) to anyone who donates more than, say... $25.00???

Thanks in advance.. Can't remember zactly what's on this drive, other than MOST of PRS '07, some really good jet stuff!

Man, how can they charge that much to recover a stinkin' hundred dollar drive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Like ink and printers????????????

I wish! I've had hard drive "problems" before and have recovery software that works really well even with formatted drives. Problem here is, this sucker ain't turnin' one RPM.. she's dead!

        *sigh*

Anyway, bill's gonna get paid one way or the other, can't remember exactly what's on her but, most of PRS '07's efforts, to be sure..

Can't let it go.. would love to (have MANY other plans for that check!)

Lemme know if anyone else has any suggestions for drives that no longer turn!

err.. and check the prices for backing up a 500gb drive

There truly is no free lunch..

On the other hand, from now on, when I buy a portable drive, I will always buy two of same kind, not so I can extend my storage but so I will have a 50-50 chance of keeping what I put on "them"!!!!!!!!!

I'll delete the solicitation if it offends anyone!

We all have fun here, don't cost nobody nuttin (cept me) to keep her runnin, once in a blue moon, I stick the cup out and asks for some help..

Again, lemme know if that offends!

PS, just in case it does, LOTS of sites do it.. .we've donated a lot of web space over the years and never asked anything in return..

Re: Hard Drive Crash - Verdict Is In $1275.00

              Oh man..

I ate a really spicy taco salad for dinner.. there ain't no tears in me eyes I tell ya!

              Thanks to both of you!!!!!!!!

I TRULY hate to pass the hat, but on this one, it's just so "out there"!!!!

I *think* it was a low voltage/high amperage thing, but we'll never know, and it does not matter! A really high quality airplane will (it looks like) get cover of Pacific Flyer.. a truly wonderful friend will be able to reward his "owner" (truthfully, FRIEND) for backing the project, I waived my fee (if there was cover)..

The A2A was a "freebie" a week later, a couple airplane guys needed a ride to go fishing, their ride had already been paid forward..

It all works out in the end doesn't it!

And, once two ink&paper pubs let me know what they used, I can put some stuff up!

Airplane and builder/pilot I was involved with when the drive went south, is simply one of the best of the best!

He's gonna read this and go.. "oh S-H-I-T.. I hope nobody ever figures out who I am!"

Don't matter my friend, we "shared a moment" we did!

Wish I'd have had time to put the camera down and really watch you buddy!

Thanks for the help my friends!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I clicked the "Make a Donation" button and sent off some change. Don't know if that is the way I was supposed to do it but they took the cash.

PS Keep the prints...just post a couple of your favorites.
