I ingested a bird into the #2 engine on the P-3 on takeoff once. What amazed me was that it made it through the prop arc without getting chopped in half. They found an essentially 'complete' bird inside the compressor section of the engine.

My dad tells of flying thru a flock of gulls in a C-130 after takeoff coming out of Japan in the late 60's. They barely made it back to the ground intact and the plane was a mess! They were lucky only 2 came in the nose, but all four engines were thrashed.
