Anybody stay at Travelodge during the races? Is it any good?

    Thanks

    Tom

I guess I should say its all about the sleep, just thought the kitchenette thing might be cool.

    Re: Places to stay

I stayed there for a few nights during the week a few years ago... best I can remember the rooms were worn pretty bad, some of the other guests were a little on the seedy side (there was a whole family living in one room) and the "breakfast" consisted of nothing more that packaged pastries.
BUT, the price was c.h.e.a.p., it had free high speed internet (something most the big casino places downtown don't even offer... yeah I know the casino isn't taking your money (their job) if your just sitting in your room on the internet) and it was relatively easy to make it from the hotel to Stead. And, like you said, it is after all just a place to lay your head and take a shower... guess it all depends on what other amenities you want.
I will also say that I haven't been back, I've since found a even cheaper place to stay that a little closer... in a camper behind one of the hangers on the field

I can be there in a car in an hour and a half, but I would really love to drag my trailer up there for 4-5 days during the races. I may camp at Pyramid Lake and make the short commute. Still up in the air on this as its so dam windy there. Any other good cheap camping places close by?

There's Bordertown a couple of miles to the north on 395. Services, a good restaraunt and a little casino, and close enough to see some planes in the evening.
I stayed in the Soroptimist's lot outside the gate for over 20 years and tho a little rough it was close. I've noticed several churches and other groups have set up small lots around Stead in recent years. You've gotta be self contained tho.
I don't know if the old Hilton RV lot will still be open this year.
It'll take you an hour to get to Stead from Pyramid on a weekday morning and longer to get back at night due to traffic. It's almost 40 miles.
