  • Old Pics... Oshkosh '81?

    Hi All,

Y'all know this story... my dad died last year and I've found a bunch of aircraft photos in his stuff. Still haven't located the treasure trove of photos he took in the skies over southeast asia, lot's of air-to-air F-4 shots there, etc. Hopefully those will turn up.

I'm guessing these are from Oshkosh, which his duties with the FAA took him to... the prints are labelled '1981'.

I expect full information on each of the aircraft by lunch.

Can't figure out what the first pic is, but the second one is the late George Enhorning's "Passion Wagon". George was killed in this plane, then it was rebuilt as Bill Speer's "Deja Vu'' and was lost at Reno '94.

Third pic, I believe, is Bill Ross in "Der Gabelschwanz Teufel"...which is now "Putt Putt Maru" at the Lonestar Museum.

Fourth pic is one of Old Howard's Corsairs. He had four of them at one point.

Don't recognize the fifth photo...can't even see an N number to search on.

Sixth pic is of "Jumpin Jaques" (now in Europe) and "Vergeltungsblahblahblah...." (however you spelled it).

Last photo is of Ellsworth Getchell's 105 Sea Fury. I'd recognize those red drop tanks anywhere... :-)

        Hey Brad,
I found the number on the tail of the P-51. It appeared at OSH in 1979, escorting a B-17. I don't know how to go further with the search, but the number on the tail is "485634" and the kills look like Pacific Theatre. Good luck with the search. Please teach me how you do it.

That very well could be, Shawn. I don't remember the 'rainbow' spinner on it, or the Yosemite Sam nose art. For whatever reason, I didn't pay much attention to it that year. It was race #51, if I remember...and it had the 'big' Pacific Theater recognition stripes, similar to what Flying Undertaker had....but like I said...I really don't remember all that much about it, other than some young rookie named Rick was flying it....and he, as a rookie, was somewhat overshadowed by another rookie that year.

I think they ended up re-painting/re-naming it as Tally Ho or Tally Ho II. I rememeber Fred flying the airplane as Tally Ho II at Reno '84 in a green/tan RAF Camo paint scheme. Don't know if that was the same airplane, though.

Hmm, would that indicate these pics are from '79? I found another one of (probably) Sunshine, plus another mystery mustang.

Was the first P51 originally called 'Sixshooter'? I found a photo of Sixshooter and it had something like a Yosemite Sam on it (a little blurry). The numbers looked like(also blurry) 422580. http://www.richard-seaman.com/Aircra...ler/index.html

I totally agree with you Wayne, its good for a fan like me who in NZ is limited to a couple of pages of photos in magazines every year with the unlimited results, i get to learn so much from all these great posts and reading what the guys like Matt Jackson have to say.
