HONOLULU -- The U.S. military said its sea-based missile defense system has intercept two targets simultaneously.

It said a test off Kauai destroyed both a cruise missile and a short-range ballistic missile.

The test marked eight out of 10 times the Missile Defense Agency and U.S. Navy's Aegis missile defense system successfully intercepted its target.


But it was the first time the system knocked down two targets at once.

A similar attempt failed in December when the first interceptor missile, designed to collide with the ballistic missile target, failed to launch.

The military later determined the ballistic missile defense system had been incorrectly programmed.

The PRMF (aka Barking Sands) is probably the best white sand beach owned by the taxpayers. This would be one of those "good duty" stations.

I got a nice look the PRMF during a punishing ride out to the Pali Coast from Port Allen on one of those rigid hulled inflatables last year. Beautiful day, but there were plenty of "Perfect Storm" moments when we climbed some enormous swells. The crew DID promise an "exciting" ride.
