  • Thunderbirds to Fly By at Super Bowl

Just saw that the Thunderbirds are going to do the fly by during the opening of the Super Bowl this year. Should be good!

    Well I saw them,.........barely.

It was dark though, and they went by overhead so fast that if you blinked twice you might have missed them.

    Congrag to the Colts.

It was low & fast, and the formation was tight in heavy IMC. And the timing was absolutely perfect. I was impressed.

I thought it was frickin' awesome. The subtle illumination of the birds and smoke trails by the stadium lights, silouhetted against the night sky. Hey, you'll never see that any airshow.

It looked like they were broadcasting the raw video signal from one of the cockpits to the stadium jumbotrons too..

I believe that was recorded cockpit video. Since it was damn near night time when the actual flyby happened, you wouldn't have enough cockpit lighting to actually see anything that was broadcast live.

Probably true, although there are some good low light cameras nowadays. OTOH, I imagine they didn't move the whole ground crew over to Miami for the superbowl...

No, actually THIS is what mine look like.

Except my favorite pair--the one I wore every day on my khaki's--was a tarnished pair that T-6 racer Bob Jones gave me when I got my wings...the same pair that he had gotten winged in back in the '50's. Since his son didn't go Navy, I was the 'adopted' one....

Cool - always liked that tradition, whether it was wings, or rank insignia.
