        Ask and you shall recieve.

Sorry about the focus, my camera really didn't like the angles I was having to shoot from on some of the balcony shots.

Which, of course, is a two-time Bendix Trophy winner with Paul Mantz.

It really is, they do a good job of representing all aspects of flight there too. I was surprised to see racing so well represented there.

P.S. I know speeddemon knows but I forgot to tell Mustangfan that the plane was Excalibur III.

Now THAT is a trophy! Gives me chills to see it.

                  Very nice.

So as I recall, Excaliber III (also called Stormy Petryl) was the first to do an 'over the pole' flight solo, right?

Yes and according to the museum still holds the record for prop flight over that route.

Ah, you beat me to it. I was in the museum a couple weekends ago and just haven't gotten around to doing anyting with the pictures... maybe this thread will kick my butt into gear a little.

Wyhdah - Thanks for the additional pics..very cool stuff.

Thanks to you and Brad also for the history on Excalibur III. Pretty amazing that it still holds the prop record for the polar route. I have GOT to get to D.C. and see Udvar-Hazy. Looks like an amazing place.

Mark, that is a definite must. My wife just could not understand why I was taking ("wasting") pictures of old trophies.lol. She did not even go to Dulles with me so se missed the newer race planes.

Here is another runner. I'm sure it needs no intro.

Many moons ago I was out at Silver Hill and Don Beck's old Sorceress was out there. As was Roscoe's "Meteor". Are they at Dulles now?
