It has been a long time sence we have seen a sight like that on the Bear. (no bear.... I am talking about the air plane not you....hehe) what a sight. I hate to say this because I will most likly get flammed.
Why push it. Reno is a week away. There is a lot of testing that needs to be done. I know Reno 2002 is thier goal. but wouldnt Reno 2003 be safer in terms that they will have the extra time to do every thing right. get some speed tests under thier belt, and make changes.
I am a L O N G time bear fan. I would hate any thing to happen to her that they over looked in haste to make the Reno 2002 goal.

      Bear,

What can I say but ......... WOW! You hit it right on the nose. I was not even thinking about sponcership money, purses, or just getting the plane out there for all to see. I was thinking safty. Safty for the pilot, for the crowd, and for the bear cat its self. I know money has been a big issue over the years for this team. To be were they are at this point in the game is (simply put) incredable.
I know from the years I have spent at the races (this will be the first year I will miss in 15 or so) The Bear has been the fan fair of the Reno crowd. Not including the Bear cat fans. If she does not fly this year, but just makes a couple of passes up and down the ramp with the new engine purring and that huge prop turnning. She will make a big impression. one that a potential sponcer would have a hard time turning down. All they will have to do is listen to the crowd, and see every person in the stands pointing. A sponcer would have a hard time turnning that kind of fan base down. All thoe, bad things seem to happen to air racing when it comes to sponcership money.
Thank you for the answer Bear, and informing us of the future of the Bear if she does not fly.

Safety is obviously of the greatest importance, and that should be first, last and always... All talk of getting Rarebear into "the show" for the chance of luring sponsorship makes perfect sense... Keep her on the ground if you must, but I am pulling for her crew to have a little (a lot) of luck and have clear sailing with the runups and tests... But, I don't want to see "The Bear" roaring up and down the taxiway.... Get that big roundie in the air and give the rest of the guys all they can take...I want the see Rarebear fly, race..... AND WIN....

My big fear is that racing in Reno is going to "go away" due to safety problems and housing incroachment (sooner that later), and the chance of having all the "baddest" racers in the world in the sky at one time is going to be gone...

I have only been able to get to Reno a few times, and have never seen Rarebear in top form... I love the mustangs and always have, but Rarebear is my favorite racer.... I would like to see her breaking records and breaking hearts.... THIS year...

Good luck to all that are working on her, sending in donations, and sitting on the sidelines with our fingers crossed...

          Aces...

Ps. See you all in Reno... I'll be in the "lawn chair" area (the guy drinking beer and having a blast......lol..)

I've been going to Reno since 1976 and this is what it's all about! There have been many Cinderella stories, many last minute rebuilds and heroic efforts to get a racer in the race, or even on site. I agree it's crunch time for the Bear. Money has always been a problem for all of the teams, but Rare Bear has had more than it's share. He needs to show his stuff if possible and safe. The word needs to go out so people know of their efforts for the team and the sport.
And who knows? Wiley Sanders brought Jeannie back from a crash the weekend before the races and won the championship. Why not the Bear?
When the Bear runs there is a definate difference in the crowd. Everyone loves the Bear!

Bear in 02! Go get um!

              Lets not forget...

What no one has mentioned yet is that everyone...including the pilots...wait all year for this. Why? Because they love it as much as we...the crews...the fans...the behind the scenes people do.

Think of it like this...you have the one opportunity to make love per year, and your equipment doesn't work, and your viagra bottle is empty.

There is no second chance. It is once per year, and when it is over, it is not going to happen again until next year.

                Gettin the Bear up

I wonder how much Viagra it takes to get the Bear, Ahem, up.
                (The racer that is...)

I hope they make it, I'd sure like to see and hear them on the course, running good.

Personally I'm a Strega fan, but if Lyle and crew can pull this off, I will be a traitor to the cause and vote Bear!

First engine run-up is supposed to occur today (Wednesday) barring any show-stoppers. Hope AAFO can get a sound file posted.
