  • Eight days at Reno

Well here are the start of photos from my eight days in Reno.

Sunday 9-10, it was clear, at least to me, that even during practice, Mike Brown had the plane to beat this year.

Monday 9-11, an salute to the Section 3 gang from an F1 racer.

Tuesday 9-12, a couple of T-6's taxi out.

Wednesday 9-13, this my friends is warbird porn. It does not get much better than this. Not the greatest photo, resting the camera on Dago's tug and trying to keep it still, but I'll take it.

Thursday 9-14, Jimmy Leeward talks things over with some crew members.

Friday 9-15, Precious Metal gets ready to taxi out.

Saturday 9-16, Tempus Fugit taxis out in the late afternoon sun.

Sunday 9-17, just some of the people responsible for helping Mike Brown take the Gold.

And a bonus, as I was walking out Sunday, the sun had already set, but the sky looked pretty good. So I snapped a couple of Big Red in the evening sky.

That's it for now. Back to my real job!!

        Re: Eight days at Reno

Love the Darkgo Red shot and the Precious Metal one too!

It brings back a wish I've had for years that RARA would sponsor a yearly photo contest for Air racing photography in three or four categories and publish the 1st/2nd/3rd place winners yearly in a 4-6 page photo spread in the program. Have some decent prizes (wouldn't have to be terribly expensive on their part) like a one day pylon press pass for those who normally could not; a season ticket reserved seat or two; a T-6 ride; etc. The four categories:

1)Pylon passes (the best from the pros out at the pylons)

2)Pits pics (the sunset/sunrise/night engine runs/close up angles. etc. that one can only get with a pit pass)

3)Props to Props (the best action shots, taxiing or flying that capture propellers in competition as viewed by the common fan in the stands).

4)Pilots, Patrons, and Passion (human interest type photos that capture the emotions of pilots, overworked crews, jubilant fans, etc.)

Don't other annual Motor Sports events sometimes do things like that in their programs?

On a side note the Reno program cover design used to be a yearly contest open to public entries. You could always find a little paragraph hidden somewhere in the program promoting entries. Was that stopped years ago?

Well, they do have one for credentialed media.. (which Tim probably should be.. we gotta get him published somewhere!) but back to the subject...

I didn't enter, the rules, as I read them, allowed each photographer one vote, and we could vote for our own entry.

With about 150+ media... I was reluctant to enter a contest that would have something like a 100 way tie...

          <rimshot>

          OK OK Valerie.. JUSSSSSST KIDDING!!!!

          I didn't enter because I'm the world's worst procrastinator!!!!

          There.. I finally admitted it..

          WOW.. .don't I feel better!!

Surely you have access to alien technology, or, maybe just alittle alien DNA! You got the eye, man!

Nice stuff Tim. The Dago shot is great, but I like the PM shot even better. It was nice meeting you at the races. Stay warm this winter.
