  • Cloud Dancer - Miss Florida Bonehead?

I haven't been able to keep up with reading all the posts so I don't know if anyone else put any of Cloud Dancer but...

Here's a shot of Jimmy yesterday.. If memory serves me correctly, the canopy used to be on the airplane when it was named "Miss Florida Bonehead" early in Jimmy's racing career...

    Geeks...??

(I'll post up a few more as I get them processed.. Lighting was a real challenge yesterday)

Wayne - I agree, great shot. Did they clip the wings? Take a look at this shot from last year on Victor's gallery:

Unless my eyes are going, it sure looks like the port side wingtip in your photo is pretty close to that number 9....In any case, she sure looks a lot racier, eh?

Just added another photo, very clear that they are quite clipped...!

Missileer - Thanks for bringing me up to speed. Musta missed that thread.

That sure is a funky looking canopy..is it metal in the back, or maybe fiberglass? Anyone know?

Re: Cloud Dancer - Miss Florida Bonehead?

I think some of the mods like clipped wings and shortened ailerons are a present from Dan Martin, cause they look suspiciously like RR III tricks, only maybe Jimmy got the treats. If incorrect please make post.

Looks like the canopy off of Bob Love's old "Oogahonk Special"?

Great shots Wayne. Mine is not much of a shot from one million miles away, but No 9 looks awsome. Thanks to the Leewards for putting on a show. I love the canopy!

By the way, how come you fly so high on course?

Didn't Miss Candace use that canopy at one time?

OK. I'm at Reno. Sorry I couldn't post sooner, but I didn't get in until 3:30 this morning. I'll be out at about 11:00.

Yup. Phil Greenberg fabricated it from metal for Miss Candace in 1970, and it did NOT have the 'slit' windows in the rear. It next showed up on Bob Love's #97 from '73-75, and the Silver Fox had the slit windows installed so he could see 'behind'. Leeward ran it on Cloud Dancer from 1978-1981, and it has been sitting in the hangar ever since.

If you look close, the slit windows are very crazed over......
