  • Weekend weather!

Courtesy of weather.com and the NPS, here's the scoop on the weekend weather for Reno. Yikes, I'll be arriving Friday night, apparently along with the snow on the mountains! BTW, great to see the pictures and updates, keep them coming until us later arrivers can get there in person...

STRONG WINDS AND MUCH COOLER TEMPERATURES POSSIBLE LATE THIS WEEK...

AS HIGH PRESSURE BUILDS OVER THE SIERRA AND WESTERN NEVADA TODAY ... TEMPERATURES WILL RISE TO AROUND 10 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. THROUGH WEDNESDAY...NEVADA VALLEY HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL REACH THE LOW TO MID 90S...WITH 70S AND 80S EXPECTED IN THE SIERRA. THIS INCREASE IN TEMPERATURE WILL BE TEMPORARY AND END DRAMATICALLY ON THURSDAY AND FRIDAY.

A COLD LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL DEVELOP OVER WESTERN CANADA ON WEDNESDAY AND DROP INTO THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST AND NORTHERN ROCKIES ON THURSDAY. THIS SYSTEM IS EXPECTED TO PUSH A COLD FRONT THROUGH NORTHWEST NEVADA ON THURSDAY AFTERNOON. AHEAD OF THE FRONT TEMPERATURES WILL REMAIN WELL ABOVE NORMAL...BUT AS THE FRONT PASSES TEMPERATURES MAY DROP AS MUCH AS 20 DEGREES!!

THE RAPID DROP IN TEMPERATURES WILL BE ACCOMPANIED BY STRONG WINDS OVER WESTERN NEVADA...NORTHEAST CALIFORNIA AND THE EASTERN SIERRA ON THURSDAY. WINDS COULD GUST IN EXCESS OF 40 MPH... WITH GUSTS NEAR 50 MPH IN WIND PRONE AREAS ALONG THE SIERRA FRONT.

GUSTY WINDS CAN CREATE DIFFICULT TRAVEL CONDITIONS FOR HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES...AND CAN GENERATE AREAS OF BLOWING DUST WITH VISIBILITIES DROPPING BELOW 1 MILE AT TIMES. PATIO FURNITURE AND UNSECURED ITEMS MAY BE BLOWN ABOUT BY THESE WINDS...AND SHOULD BE SECURED OR BROUGHT INDOORS BY THURSDAY MORNING.

HIGH TEMPERATURES ON FRIDAY ARE EXPECTED TO BE 10 DEGREES OR MORE BELOW NORMAL. NEVADA VALLEY HIGHS MAY STRUGGLE TO REACH 70 DEGREES NORTH OF HIGHWAY 50. HIGHS IN THE NORTHERN SIERRA AND NORTHEAST CALIFORNIA MAY BE AS COOL AS THE UPPER 50S TO MID 60S.

SNOW LEVELS ON FRIDAY AND FRIDAY NIGHT MAY DROP BELOW 7000 FEET NORTH OF INTERSTATE 80...WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF LIGHT SNOW ACCUMULATIONS ON NORTHERN SIERRA MOUNTAIN PEAKS.

EVERYONE IS ENCOURAGED TO CONTINUE TO MONITOR FORECASTS THIS WEEK FROM THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN RENO NEVADA FOR UPDATES ON THIS DEVELOPING SITUATION.

I've watched races IN the rain, in snow flurries, and in dust so thick you could hardly see.

          I think it's a matter of whether the pilots/FAA think it's doable.
