      Seen him get lower!

I seem to remember a hole in the wing tip once.

      Now that is low

I believe the announcer last year mentioned that the top of the "R" in "RENO" is about 40 feet.

"Bird strike." Or was it a jackrabbit? With barbed wire around its ears... :-P

Its a rare pilot who has a better sense of where the aircraft was and what it is doing than Lefty. The Skyfire video that was (is?) on the White Lightnin' site is a perfect example. Beautiful flying.

Those are great pics......Remember back around 1969 when Greenamayer was disqualified from racing and another pilot (can't remember his name) flew Conquest 1. That was the lowest I think I've ever seen anyone fly. If I remember right he won but was disqualified for flying to low.

Can't say as I do. Anyone remember this? I do remeber DG quiting racing over a disqualification for fly on the crowd side of the deadline.

That was 1981, the first year I went to the Reno air races. It's mentioned in Gentlemen, you have a race by John Tegler (Page 359, first paragraph)

There was some wood found in the hole that "looked suspiciously like part of a fence post."

The guy who filled in for Greenamayer was Bob Laidlaw. Yes, he was disqualified for flying too low.
