  • The Truth about Victor Archer!

    True story:

One day at PRS we were headed out to the pylons, and saw this thing shimmering in the heat. I distinctly heard Victor's voice from the back of the Suburban saying something to the effect of "Damn, looks like the cloaking device has failed again!".

    Now we know...

Anybody know the story on that sphere? It's been out there for months. My son said he has seen it in the air (over the same spot) a couple times early in the morning. I notice it has an N number.
I've asked around a little and gotten no answers.

                Sphere reg

If I'm reading that N-number correctly as "N3041X", the FAA site says the sphere is a 1966 Cessna 150F. If it's "N3041K" it's actually a 1987 Beech F33A. Talk about major modifications!

Judging by the fact that it appears to have SBC and some other logos on it, I'd say it's a communications relay. There's a lot being done in this area to look at temporary cell towers, etc in the event of emergencies, or when the need for a temporary station arises (large sporting/public events, etc). How many times have you gotten service busy messages somewhere...

Re: The Truth about Victor Archer!

According to Valerie Enos, the RARA press coordinator, that's exactly what it is.

The other mystery, though, is how it flies. Her understanding is that it is made of some kind of composite and does not use helium or hot air (???). It does have positioning propellers on the sides, but these are small in relation to the sphere, which is quite large.

It always seems to be under guard, and I did not run into anybody who has been up close to the thing...

                      Ok, now try N8041x.

Funny how you get home with pics and have to scramble to find the right id on them.

You know that hanger that Unleashed was in last year(SNC)? Well that is where they are made. Right in one of the sport hangers.

Fascinating craft...though I'm pretty sure I wouldn't want to ride in one all the way to 20,450ft (their record).
