    Re: Reno Yak Site !

Great, thanks. It's pretty difficult to find Yak photos on the net. I sure would like to see a photo of the original Yak 3U prototype of which STEADFAST is modeled after.
How many different Yaks have raced at Reno?
How many are flying in the worl with R2000's?
    1830's?
    Allisons?
    Klimov's?
    ASH's?

I get asked these questions frequently and just have to look at the person asking with great confusion.
    Thanks,
    Will

Gotta love those pictures of 'The Ranch'. Nezgoda was the only guy I know to personally 'kill' TWO Yak racers single-handedly.

On that same note...anyone know what's up with the wreckage from Maniyak these days?

The restoration on Maniyak is just about finished and she should be flying before the year is out.

Last I heard, the wreckage was stored at Ione. Is that where it is being done? Who owns it now, and what does the future hold? Any racing?

The wreckage went from Ione to Santa Rosa, then to Arizona with it's new owner Bill Lewallen (I hope I spelled his last name right). The a/c is just about finished and will be going to the paint shop soon. The cockpit was taken back to stock 2 seat configuration, but still has the special low drag cowling. Bill said there are no plans to race her.

As per the list, Hell's Bells never showed up for a race. This was during the great Alan Preston 'sham'....it was after "Flight Magic" bought Perestroika from the Yancey estate. He never raced it...nor did it ever show up. Just like the Zero he entered one time.

                    Go figure.

                      ...and there's Holbrook....

Speed, (risking my Jr. Geek card), I don't remember a second crash for Nezgoda. What was the other one ?

                        Paul,

The second Yak crash for Nezgoda was Race 2 "Maniyak" which he crashed on take off at Ione after he bought it.

                          Re: Reno Yak Site !

Ya know, with that small Yak-3u airframe, if you stuffed a SPARROW Merlin up front, added a race (F1/teardrop/strega/dago/voodoo, etc.) canopy, and cleaned up the airframe, you'd have a relatively low cost potential winner on your hands!

Michelle, any aerodynamic thoughts or input?
