  • This is what I see on my lunch break ?

    Hi all,
I am new to this forum. Used to be over at Pylon1 a few years ago.
Anyways, I saw something interesting today. It was fast and very pretty. So at lunch time I did a little looking...
I think I found its nest in between sorties!

I forgot to say that these are obviously quick and dirty shots as to not disturb the driver of this fast bird....
My digital camera is just a basic one at that.

let the rumors fly... that doesnt look like the polished racing prop of past years, does it still have the get home motor in it? or does dan and crew have something up their sleeves for 06?????

That looks like rr3's "other" prop.

If Dago has been sitting for awhile without flying, they have probably sent the polished prop out for overhaul/service and are using this prop to get familiarization time on the aircraft and systems....

                  That would be my guess.

Looking to be a real good year overall.

Not just the prop, but the chrome spinner too. I certainly HOPE it's just temporary and not a permanent color change. Dago looks better with the shiny stuff hanging up front.

Re: This is what I see on my lunch break ?

Of course the prop and engine combination are VERY important for speed and RR has the speed for sure.

Dan may know something that we don't about that black prop hanging out there.

Everyone gets so hung up on aerodynamics and horsepower they tend to forget about that lowly propeller out there beating the wind into submission. Nemesis ("Sissy"men spelt backwards......just kidding Jon) had a "magic" propeller as many other IF1s do. The "magic" props are protected like gold. When they would have a different prop on, the speeds and acceleration were sometimes dramatically different. Even with a prop built exactly to the same specifications as the "magic" one.

Isn't the magic one called "Excalibur"?

                            All:
I can tell you that she was flying fast and did not hesitate to scream over my place of employment at 100ft going (shall we say) 300 or so...and proceded to tear the airfield a new one !!! Then it was a sweeping pull up and to the left, came back around to base, dropped the gear proceded to make a sweet landing right over my head. The receptionist at my company thought I was having a siezure in the parking lot ! I was a mess.
I totally agree that the plane is being "felt out" . That tiny canopy is quite a change from a "D" version too. So much to get familiar with.

I will do my best to snap more shots as time and opportunity present themselves. Since I am 1/8 mile from the edge of the runway, the planes are on top of me before I know it. There are some trees obscuring my view as she approaches. My "window" is the size of an eye patch!

Air Sparrow is a few hangar doors down. I suppose there is a love fest going on. The motor sounded great but I can't tell if it was a Reno bound mill. I bet it has a basic setup for air time these coming months.
