It took a few shots!! Here is one at 1/15th. When you go this slow you obviously are showing the speed. There just is no way possible to get the whole car sharp this slow.

Great shot, and well chosen subject (I mean the Porsche, not the Mustang).
              No pixels were harmed, honest.

                Excellent shots Tim!

As you can see in the second shot if you go too slow the area of sharpness gets very small also the faster the object the smaller area of sharpness also applies. If you could shoot a race plane at 1/15 the area of sharpness might be just the tip of the spinner. One other point in slow shutter speed & panning, you start to see a new tpye of noise which I like to call digital confusion .

Ouch!! American muscle car fans take it on the chin.

As for the slow stuff, most of the motorsports guys that I have seen post some of the real slow stuff, just post a few, and most of the time aim to get the driver (open wheel), or the door in focus. It is real hit or miss. You get a lot of digital blobs!!

                  I posted the rest here,

Awesome Tim! Is #146 a Chapparal? And why is the rear glass on the Mustang fastbacks knuckled -- does that provide some downforce?

From the SVRA website, #146 is a '63 Huffaker Genie. As for the glass I would say so, I don't know.

                        Tim and/or Victor:

Are you guys using AF or manually focusing on these shots? Same question for aircraft passes. My AF has a hard time zeroing in on the planes, so I switched to MF, but got a lot of blur.

AF, never use MF on action shots. I can't see the EXIF data here at work, my guess is the 100-400, or 70-200 on that shot. I did not have the 300 when I took this.

I'm using A Sony 75-300 f/4.5 on my Maxxum 5D. I think I know what I NEED to get, but at the moment I'm still learning how to shoot with this equipment. This last Saturday was the first airshow I've been to with this equipment, so I was in experiment mode. I think I will have to go shoot some sprintcars next weekend to work on my technique.

Any and all advice/criticism is appreciated!
                              Thanks!
