  • Air Racing from the Past & Jet's...

    Hello All ..

Is there any good reference available online or in print that covers Air Racing in the 60's and 70's ? When they raced other places other then just Reno ...

Also has there been a Jet class in the past ? Or Ever ?

    Thanks V.A.

They raced Lockheed P80's @ Cleveland Air Races in 1946 @ 515.853 MPH also 47 & 49. They also flew in the cross country race during that same time frame. See Reed Kinerts Vol.IV Racing planes & air races for speeds & some pictures.

PS Randy Goss has lots of history on all that.

          I am crushed. Just crushed.

BTW...the best article I have seen on the Jet races at Mojave was one in Air Progress of the '73 races. Must have been around March or so of 1974 when the issue came out. Had a wonderful write-up (I think by David Esler, but not sure) on the F-86 and T-33 races. Lots of cool pictures too.

They raced jets at Wendover too. I was there the second, (last?) year they tried it. Vampire, T-33, Magister, and a couple other obscure jets as I recall.
            Never mind. Maybe next year

Mini-Bears 24, Giants 17....and that would FINALLY be a good game.

I don't want to see a good game. I want the Hawks to drag the Steelers through the astro turf and prove that the Seahawks really ARE a good team and not a fluke, there by accident. I've been waiting a long freakin time for this. I want a blow out! I'm sick of the "media" trashin my team. You should be too Brad. Or aren't you a believer? Hmmmmm?

sorry, didn't mean to hijack the thread. I'll return everybody back to the regularly scheduled chat

Would anyone recomend the " Racing Planes and Air Races " Annual's for good historic info and photo's ?

I believe they were wrote by Randy Kinert ?

If they EVER had a TV game show about aviation we would all be screwed... GEEK! Matt Williams would give him a good run on the other hand.

They really are pretty good resources. Speed Demon turned me onto them. I got mine off of EBAY. And keep in mind that the year of the Annual covers the prior year. So, if you wanted, say, 1974, you need to look for the 75 issue. (Right Brad?)

                            Reed Kinert and Dusty Carter.

Yes, they are pretty much the 'Bible' for air racing in the late 60's and early '70's. Some of the 'info' inside is a bit iffy....but all the technical stuff is there. At least one photo of EVERY aircraft in all classes that raced each year, and several 3-view drawings of aircraft too. Get the whole set, if you can.
