Beeea-uuutiful sunset pics Victor! As I was heading over the Sierra's Saturday evening I saw the sky lit up just like that and I was thinking what a great backdrop that would make if I was in the pit area. Glad somebody was there to capture it.

It was great talking to you and Bill on Friday.

Hey Rick, It was great to see you again.

I was having dinner in the AAR hanger and I could see that the sunset was going to be a good one. So I grabbed my camera and ran out to get some shots. I realy wanted to get one with Sept. Fury but the security guy wouldn't let me... ARG!!! (Wanted to set up a shot like the one of Argonaught)

                Re: Saturdays pics

The sunset photos are killer. I have to plan to stay late one day next year.

Now Howard's Sea Fury, I see you stuck the 1.4x on the 100-400, 1/80 sec!!!!, I cheated and viewed the EXIF data. I never got brave enough to stick the converter on and try manual focus. It's hard enough doing that with slow race cars, let alone on a plane doing 400mph.

Did you crop the Dago shot? If not you were pretty damn close. The EXIF says only 295mm??

                  Hi Tim,

                  Nice to meet you!

I'm real glad I got that 1.4x. I think I have a bit more faith in my manual focus than the Canons auto.
The Dago shot was cropped some not a lot though.
The 1/80 sec stuff was experimental. I shoot my regular shots between 160 - 250 and then go for a few around 1/80 a LOT don't come out but the ones that do look real interesting, I love that feel of speed you get when shooting that slow. That's what I love about going digital, if it don't work hit the delete button.

                    Re: Saturdays pics

With a 10D, 20D, or digital Rebel you have no choice but to use MF, when using the 100-400 and 1.4X combo. Only the pro Canon (digital) bodies will AF at f/8.

As a side note, early user reports on the 20D say the AF is light years faster than the 10D/Rebel at f/5.6. This makes it real tempting since the 100-400 is f/5.6 at the long end.

If that exif data on the yellow nosed P-51 (Crusader?) is true then you must've used a tripod to get 1/25th! Great motion blur on that and I can appreciate the prop blur on the rest of the flybys too. Excellent job overall and a real artsy set of sunset shots. Sure beats the crowded daytime shots that are most of mine. Thanks for sharing. BTW, are you using an IS lens? I think that along with tracking AF can only help minimize my shutter speed to achieve sharp pics with good/great prop blur. Judging from my results and location from the pits, I think I'll need at least 600mm!

                        Re: Saturdays pics

I shot everything hand held that day, used a monopod on Sunday cuz I was getting tired as well as very cold.
I was using a 100 - 400 zoom with is (not on all the time) and most of the time I was using a 1.4x adapter which meant going to manual focus.
Thank you for your coments, I just do this for myself and to share with others like you. I'll have more shots up in a day or two.
