          Rare Bear, all the way.

As a Rare Bear "fan sponsor" it's obvious who I'm rooting for, but I still think Dago Red has more financial resources, and at the end of the day ANY race vehicle runs on cubic dollars, and Mr. Bland seems to have the upper hand there.

              -Consults his 'magic 8-ball'...-

"Magic 8-ball, who will be the big winner at Reno in 2004?" (gives it a good shake and peers at the window on the bottom, awaiting a reply)

Magic 8-ball replies, "Ask again later".

              "Dang! It keeps saying that!"

                This is way to easy.

Barring mechanical failure, Dago Red with Skip Holm.

Last year, Rare Bear was happy to have a healthy engine after the Gold Final on Sunday. And I don't blame them for the strategy. What will change this year? Are they going use the nitros? If they want to end the week with an aircraft that will still fly, AMEN!

September Fury. Nice looking but only in its third year? Still has to show the speed.

Only one race plane with a healthy engine can get around Dago, and it's sitting in a hangar in Shafter, California.

I think dago red is the faster and better plane with a good pilot.

Dago finally breaks and Da Bear wins going away with sept fury keeping the Bear honest

Re: The winner of reno 2004.

Any plane at anytime can win. What if Dago has a problem that makes it only possible to run at 100 inches of manifold pressure? What if the Bear looses a cylinder on the last lap? What if September Fury gets her engine program nailed this year? And finally , what if another fairly stock airframe with a rootin-tootin V-12 comes on strong when everyone else has issues? It's always a horse race, and no one is guarnteed to lead that last lap, on the last race on Sunday.... that's what makes it Reno

Re: The winner of reno 2004.

Something nobody else has mentioned in this string so far is Dago's secret weapon: Bill Kerchenfaut. My hat goes off to all the crews that keep the planes flying but Bill's record of success as a crew chief speaks for itself. (with both Strega and Dago) He knows what it takes it takes to win the gold. Yes it takes $$$'s. Yes it takes a good pilot. Yes it takes a bit of luck. But without a solid maintenance team, and a leader of that team that knows how to win, you don't make it to the winners circle on Sunday afternoon.

                          just my .02
