  • March ARB Airshow

Went to the March Field Airshow. It was nice and hot and dusty.
Shooting photos was ok in the morning but in the in the afternoon
the sun was behind everying flying and the sky low down got very dirty.
Thought I'd share a couple of photos.

Great stuff Victor. I think you nailed the Tucker ribbon cut. Same with the smokin' T-34. But say, didn't that bomb fall mighty fast from the B-17?

      I agree GREAT stuff!!

On the bomb fall... actually, study the photo... bombs don't fall straight down, they actually move "with" the airplane.. the burst is slightly behind the -17, so I'm guessing that had it actually been a dropped bomb, it'd have popped at about the same instant.

That is a TOUGH shot to get! Usually, the bursts don't go off with timing correct to even get close. Good imagination and composition by Victor to get the framing right to actually get it...

      Keep up the GOOD work!!

I'm with you Wayne, but think that it would have "landed" a bit further back. Now we need to see who is right. At Reno, you bring the B-17 and I'll bring a keg filled with rocks. Okay, they keg will be emptied shortly before the flight. Victor will have to be there to help drink.... er... take photos because I can't ever get the burst like that.

        You in?

Wayne, Bill, Thank you both for you comments.
Funny you mentioned timing, have a look at these.
Oh and I never knew this before but B-25's can drop
bombs with the bomb doors closed, lol.

            Re: March ARB Airshow

The static display was very weak and somewhat disorganized.
Some disappointments in flying too: no F-16 or C-17 demos and
the P-38 was also a no-show all of which were in the program
as posted on their web site. It would have been really cool to
see the U2 fly. Something a little frustrating, right now both the
EAA and the Collings foundation have there B-17s and the
Collings B-24 in southern CA, Palm Springs has a B-17 and the
CAF has a B-17 there would have been a perfect opportunity to
have all of them fly together, oh well just dreaming I guess .

That is a really clean-looking F-4! I also found the white F-15 intresting. Anybody know where these birds are from?

Hi Neal, The F-15 is from Edwards AFB test center and the F-4 belongs to the March Field air museum, they have quite a few interesting aircraft there. Here's a link to a list of aircraft they have:
The March Field Air Museum is dedicated to promoting an understanding of humanity’s reach for the skies, and March Field’s pivotal role in the development of flight. A nonprofit educational institution accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, this highly-rated museum offers something for guests of all ages and backgrounds.

                  Re: March AFB Airshow

Thanks Victor. So the F-4 is a non-flying display, I assume. Does the Air Force still fly any Phantoms? I remember that there were Recon birds still operating a few years ago...
