My history is pretty weak but.... wasn't Strega created as a modified (clipped canopy, etc) racer from the beginning???

            Neal???

              Randy,
I still have that DEAT CAT ALE taste in my mouth from the 80's at RNO... Ya sure Al didn't use that for fuel?

                My .02

I believe it was Doug Wood who owned/flew this racer. I also believe that this only flew at the 1965 or 66 Fox Field races at Lancaster, California.

But hey...what do I know anyhow?

I have no idea, Wayne. My answer was 99.9% tongue in cheek.

I normally just lurk on here, but thought I'd stick my head out on this one...It's not Strega, it was built up from junk as a racer (originally being from Bakersfield, I played little league right down the street from the airport where it was built). Based on what looks like a #7 on the tail, I'd guess it could posibly be "candy man" before it was painted?

                        Bow to the king...

                        Aw, c'mon Goss.

Just annoint me the king, and get it over with.

The plane in the picture is Doug Wood's N469P. It was completely stock, but had a beautiful polished metal finish, with a red #7 on the tail.

It raced only once--in the 1965 Harolds Club trans-con race, where it finished 7th (I think).

The photo in question was taken at the 1965 Lancaster races at Fox Field, CA. Wood brought the plane, but did not race it.

(Some people have guessed it is a "pre-paint" Candyman....but Candyman was painted red & white long before Beck/Modes put the yellow markings and the "Sammy" cartoon on the side. Candyman raced from Reno '73 thru Mojave '76. The plane stayed red & white until after it was ferried to England in 1980, and then restored as "Moose/Candyman")
