Yep. Kerch has said he thought this thing had possibilities. Apparently Tiger did not.

I remember hearing a story that the plane didn't handle well with the Tiger Claw, but I never knew if that story had any truth to it.

what was that prop off of? or was it a custom made one of a kind prop?

That was an interesting time for Strega. Tiger seemed willing to try several things to try to go a bit faster. Mostly I think he proved that NAA and Ham Standard did pretty good work back in WWII...

A guy who worked at the shop that made it recently posted on Facebook that it was a modified Hamilton Standard prop.

What's the story behind the bent prop tips in that pic?

That was after he won the 1997 race. The wind was blowing from the south VERY strong that afternoon, so a lot of the racers attempted to land on 18/36...the 'old' runway. This was the result. Tiger bounced it pretty hard and got it up on it's nose. This is what prompted the 'shaved' prop blades that it has now, and it also kinked the wing spar outboard of the left main gear.

In this shot, the top of the cowl appears to be modded with a down slope and bumps for the valve covers.

Don't know if that made any difference in speed but stock looks better to me.
