  • Sea Fury in the Valley of Speed video

Here's a video taken from the fence line. I just got software to convert old tapes to digital and began with some of my old Reno Air Race videos. This one I really like and I hope you do too. I think this one is 2003. Sorry about the quality...still learning.

    Chris

What engine did Pops use? Was it a Centaurus with a 4 blade?

Thanks. On Rod Lewis' site it says it has a Centarus and all of the pictures of it recently have a 4 blade. Maybe they've changed it since she raced

Nope, still 3350 powered. I guess whoever is handling the website doesn't know the difference.

Maybe it means originally powered by. And the 4 blade with the Centaurus didn't make sense anyway. Maybe pops will race next year replacing 232 if Rod sells it for sure

              - Centurus, 5 blade prop, spins to the left

              - 3350, 4 blade prop, spins to the right

Seems like Jim Mott ran a 4 blade on his Centaurus powered Fury. Maybe someone has a good photo.

Re: Sea Fury in the Valley of Speed video

I asked Jim Mott about the 4 blade prop on Mischief many years ago at Reno and he said it was a transport Centaurus engine and prop.

That prop is/was hanging on the back wall of the Sanders hanger.

What type of airframes used the transport Centaurus?

British transports using Centaurus, Airspeed Ambassador, Blackburn Beverley, Vickers Warwick, along with other fighters, trainers, and seaplanes.
