  • Name that taildragger

Pardon my ignorance, but can anyone tell me what type of aircraft was that partially restored taildragger warbird up in the static display area at Reno this year? I'm talking about the one with contra-rotating props that looked like a cross between a Spit and a P-51. Someone told me it was a Fairey Firefly, but I've looked online and none of the Firefly variants I can find look at all like that. I'll attach a photo.

It looks like the Martin-Baker MB5.

      Martin-Baker MB5

That would be John Marlins scratch built MB5 that he’s been working on for years. He plans on racing it when it’s finished.
Here are a few more pics of it. Jason http://www.aafo.com/gallery/MB5-2/

        Thanks!

Thanks a lot; I figured the brain trust on this site would be able to help me out. I knew I'd seen that shape somewhere before: turns out it was right here on AAFO.COM...

I saw the MB5 when they towed it out on Wednesday afternoon. It looks great already, and it's not even finished! Too bad someone peed on the side of it though (see the above picture)
