  • Let's have some fun speculation

Is a P-51D the fastest plane you can get on the course at Reno?!

We are now seeing that the D model Super Stangs are dominant, is there anything that could EVER beat them?!

Always wondered about the H model, wish Coutches would jack his up and race it for a year and put her back to stock but that's pretty unreasonable.

    Spitfire with a boil off?

Hawkers special planes they made like the Sabre powered fury or inline sea fury. Griffin powered tempest?

Precious Metal in a couple years?

    Rare Bear with a 4360?

    Furias?

    Czech mate with a 3350?

A tigercat with twin 3350's, clipped wings and some weight reduction?

    What else do we got?!?

I don't think Rare Bear is done by any means, but I would sure like to see what Furias could do with some $$.

My 3 step program to Win Reno

Step 1: Build two blown V-1710's that can run 100 inHG and 2,700hp (1 spare, of course!)
Step 2: Build a fuselage around the above critter...
Step 3: Attach Wings from scrap TS-11 Iskra

        Go racing...

        Why not?

I know Bill Kerchenfaut has some ideas...and it has nothing to do with what he calls the 'dinosaurs'.

I've heard a report out of socal about an A-26 "with twin 3350's, clipped wings and some weight reduction" being built.

Would love for this to come true, now that would be something.

                A few things;

The Yak doesn't struggle with lack of power. It's lack of airplane to go with the power.

A Tigercat doesn't need the 3350's either... If one was fast enough, It would need more course.

You can't say something like that without elaborating!?

PM in a few years could be a safe bet. This crew is only four years into the development stage of it's program. We're still very new to the game when you look at the big picture.

I would love to see a clipped wing, Griffon powered Spitfire modified for racing. I think with the right work they would be as fast as the fast Mustangs.

Griffon P-51, Non Contra propeller and a boiloff.

5 blade then? That would be cool to see a 5 blade win the gold let alone a spitfire 5 blade. Wonder why nobody has done this or thought of it? They aren't VERY rare, and I don't think they're as expensive as P-51's. Of course it all boils down to money and nobody wants to drop it on a racing spitfire LOL.

That reminds me can you put a 4 blade on a Griffon or is it just not functional?

I don't believe a 4 Blade would work on a griffon, 600 cubic in more so would over-power the prop.

The contra rotating setup is off the shackleton long range patrol so it was developed for cruise power
