  • Mustang and B-24 GP vids

Here is the latest GoPro vids from the 2012 season. I have hours of footage. I'm trying to put it together tastefully and with out music. Most people crab about not hearing the engines. Any feedback is welcome.

The view from the camera on the B-24 tail is spectacular. Best perspective for an onboard camera that I can think of. I'd love to see a similar view on the Mustang and B-17. It reminds me of the old SkyFire video with a camera on the starboard tail of Lefty's 'White Lightnin.'

So you're the same guy who posted this at MLP right? I'm the guy who commented that he flew with Tom Boyd in San Jose remember?

It's a "Small World" again right? LOL!

Here's a link to the pics I took of that day back in May if anyone want's to check em' out!:

Thanks for posting. I just watched them on my big screen in the media room via Apple TV. Very well put together.

The one with the camera on the B24s tail makes you proud to be a America, the B24 is just a badass beast. You guys must have been all grins flying down the Hudson. The B24 is just amazing and to be able to fly next to one must bring goose bumps and a great big ole smile.

Was the B17 in the formation?

On the approach the B24 wasted no time hitting the runway :-)

          Thanks again

Re: Mustang and B-24 GP vids

Very nice! It's easy to see why these aircraft were so beloved by the pilots and crews. These videos have special meaning now; as I recently had a chance to speak with a man who was on B-24's as a waist gunner during the latter part of WW2. At that time the German air force was not able to put up as many fighters and the P-51 escort pretty much kept the rest away from the bombers. The real danger for the B-24 crews was Flak. In fact he handed me a piece of flak slightly larger than the size of a sugar cube. Needless to say that's the first time I've ever held such an item in my hand. He indicated that chunks of flak are very hot just after a burst. He was with the 8th Airforce's 44th bomb group of which many are gone now and many others lost their lives during the war.

Thank you for posting these videos.

Thanks! I ditto everyone but I also enjoyed watching the rev counter and the Manifold pressure gage of the C model in the first vid. I would also like to know how our fighters and bombers were able to stay in formation, no matter how loose or tight, for hours at a time.....seems to me it would be exausting to juggle the throttles constantly...far different than driving and pacing a car on the interstate....
